Non-Invasive Cardiology and Diagnostic

Non-invasive cardiology and diagnostics looks into the detection and the treatment of heart disease wherein there is involvement of tests for evaluating and then diagnosing the disorders of the heart. A patient who has a history of heart disease, chest pain with reasons that are unknown or valvular heart comes for non-invasive evaluation that can be done through Electrocardiaogram (ECG), 2-D Colour Doppler, Peripheral Doppler, TEE Echo, Holter and Stress Echo or Stress Test.

Invasive and Interventional Cardiology

Invasive Cardiology is that sub-specialty of cardiology that deals with diagnosis and therapeutic procedures of cardiovascular defects. These procedures need the insertion of instruments through the skin, into the body of the patient for treating the disease. The procedures are many, like gated blood pool studies, coronary angiography, stenting etc.

Interventional Cardiology is a field that deals mainly with catheter-based treatments of heart diseases. Most of the Interventional cardiology treatments such as Balloon Angioplasty, Carotid Stents and Stroke Intervention , Congenital Heart Defect Correction , Fractional Flow Reserve , Peripheral Atherectomy etc are done in the cardiovascular system, are less painful, less risk of infection and have a little recovery span.

Types of Heart Surgery

  1. Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG)

Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) is a surgical procedure that involves bypassing blocked or narrowed coronary arteries to restore blood flow to the heart.

The surgeon takes a healthy blood vessel from another part of the body and grafts it onto the blocked coronary artery.

  1. Heart Transplant

A heart transplant is a surgical procedure that involves replacing a diseased or damaged heart with a healthy donor heart.

The surgeon connects the donor heart to the patient’s blood vessels and ensures that it is functioning properly.

  1. Heart Valve Repair or Replacement

Heart valve repair or replacement surgery involves repairing or replacing damaged or diseased heart valves.

The surgeon may use a mechanical or tissue valve to replace the damaged valve.

  1. Aneurysm Repair

An aneurysm is a bulge or weakening of the aorta, the main blood vessel that carries blood from the heart to the rest of the body.

Aneurysm repair surgery involves repairing or replacing the damaged section of the aorta.

  1. Heart Failure Surgery

Heart failure surgery involves implanting a device, such as a ventricular assist device (VAD), to help the heart pump blood more efficiently.

The surgeon may also perform a heart transplant or other procedures to treat heart failure.

  1. Arrhythmia Surgery

Arrhythmia surgery involves treating abnormal heart rhythms, such as atrial fibrillation or ventricular tachycardia.

The surgeon may use a variety of techniques, including ablation or implanting a pacemaker or defibrillator.

  1. Pediatric Heart Surgery

Pediatric heart surgery involves repairing congenital heart defects or other heart problems in children.

The surgeon may use a variety of techniques, including open-heart surgery or minimally invasive procedures.

  1. Minimally Invasive Heart Surgery

Minimally invasive heart surgery involves using small incisions and specialized instruments to perform heart surgery.

This approach can reduce recovery time and scarring compared to traditional open-heart surgery.

  1. Robotic Heart Surgery

Robotic heart surgery involves using a robotic system to perform heart surgery.

The surgeon controls the robotic arms, which allow for precise and minimally invasive procedures.

  1. Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR)

TAVR is a minimally invasive procedure that involves replacing the aortic valve with a new one through a small incision in the groin.

The new valve is inserted through a catheter and expanded to replace the damaged valve.
